Lady Esther waits on the Rosymorn Monastery Trail, where she mixes a Githyanki Egg side quest with a surprisingly useful trade inventory. The Periapt of Wound Closure is a classic Dungeons & Dragons item that automatically stabilizes downed party members at the start of their turns. Cacophony and Hoppy are interesting weapons, and her armor can grant a Dexterity boost or extra Fire damage. As for the Githyanki Egg, that trade is best avoided unless the party enjoys ethical headaches. Look before you leap, and maybe leave the egg where it is.

🎭 Volo: The Worst Surgeon, Surprisingly Decent Vendor

Volo joins the camp after being rescued from goblins and immediately offers to remove the mind flayer parasite. If the party accepts, he fails spectacularly and hands over Volo's Ersatz Eye before leaving. If the party refuses his amateur surgery, he stays until the end of Act 2 and can be traded with. His stock is limited, but it includes five Potions of Animal Speaking and randomly assigned spell scrolls, sometimes high-level ones for Gale to learn. Do not look a gift horse in the mouth, even if that horse is a bard with a needle.

🛡️ Arron: The First Friendly Face

Arron in the Druid Grove is likely the first merchant many parties meet. He is excellent for low-level characters, particularly because he sells the Gloves of Missile Snaring. Down in the Underdark, in the Myconid Colony, an illithid named Omeluum studies the area with Blurg. It is better to trade with Omeluum than to simply take the ring, because this mind flayer scholar has excellent stock. The Pearl of Power Amulet restores a spell slot of third level or lower, and the Ring of Salving restores additional hit points whenever the wearer heals others. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back, and Omeluum is proof that not every tentacle is a tentacle of doom.

🐻 Lann Tarv: The Bugbear With the Best Bargains

Lann Tarv is a bugbear inside Moonrise Towers in Act 2. He is interesting because a skill check can raise his disposition to 100, giving the party the best possible prices. Lann sells the Sentinel Shield, which grants plus three to initiative rolls and advantage on Perception checks, but his true value is his buying power. With maximum attitude, he sells low and buys high, making him one of the best merchants to offload loot onto. Money talks, and Lann listens.

🐲 Exxvikyap: Dragonborn Armor Enthusiast

Exxvikyap is a dragonborn merchant in The Rivington General in Act 3. She is very enthusiastic about making a sale, and with good reason: her armor selection is fantastic. Along with arrows and weapons, Exxvikyap stocks Elven Chain and the Bonespike Garb. The Bonespike Garb is great for barbarians, granting 15 temporary hit points when Raging and reducing all incoming damage by two. The Elven Chain can be worn by any character, granting proficiency in medium armor, plus two to initiative rolls, and advantage on Dexterity saving throws. Shop till you drop, then get back up because the armor is that good.
