I've put hundreds of hours into Baldur's Gate 3, romancing Astarion, bickering with Lae'zel, and trying to keep Gale from eating my magic boots. My companions became as real to me as any friend, which is why I was absolutely floored when I saw that a dedicated fan had transplanted the entire party into The Sims 4. It's a bizarre, wonderful crossover I never knew I needed.

The mastermind behind this portaited saga is Reddit user u/Pristine-Musician-10, who clearly understood that the only thing better than saving Faerûn is making your heroes squabble over dirty dishes in a tiny suburban house. Using the Sim creator tool and a lot of ingenuity, they brought to life Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Karlach, Gale, Astarion, Wyll, Scratch the dog, and even the Dark Urge. That's right: the homicidal amnesiac origin character is now a Sim, which feels like an entirely new level of chaotic storytelling.
How the Faerûn Gang Became Sims
Creating these iconic characters inside The Sims 4 was no easy task. Without dedicated modded assets, the creator had to work with whatever the base game offered, which led to some compromises that make the whole thing even more endearing. Pristine-Musician-10 admitted they were severely limited when it came to specific details: Lae'zel's signature greenish-yellow skin isn't quite right, Karlach's burns aren't fully realized, and Wyll's cornrows ended up being an approximation rather than an exact match. But honestly, that's part of the charm. I've spent enough time in Create-a-Sim to know what a nightmare it is to replicate any non-human skin tone.
What really got me were the personality traits they assigned. Each Sim was given three traits that mirror their Baldur's Gate 3 personalities with frightening accuracy. Feast your eyes on this festival of psychological profiling:
| Companion | Traits |
|---|---|
| Lae'zel | Self-assured, Ambitious, Mean |
| Shadowheart | Self-absorbed, Loner, Kleptomaniac |
| Astarion | Evil, Romantic, Mean |
| Gale | Genius, Cat lover, Bookworm |
| Wyll | Good, Practice makes perfect, Outgoing |
| Karlach | Hot-headed, Good, Outgoing |
| Scratch | Loyal, Adventurous, Sleuth |
| Durge | Evil, Mean, Erratic |
Gale being a "cat lover" and "bookworm" is so spot-on that I can almost hear him mansplaining the Weave to a house cat. Shadowheart's kleptomania makes a disturbing amount of sense given how many lockpicks she pockets without anyone noticing. And Durge? Evil, mean, and erratic might be the most succinct character description ever written.
Visual Hits and Hilarious Misses
Of all the recreations, Astarion is the one they absolutely nailed. The pale vampire spawn with his slicked-back white hair and penetrating gaze looks like he just stepped out of the character creator after rolling a charisma check of 20. It's uncanny. On the other hand, Lae'zel reads more like a Githyanki who got lost on the way to Knowhere and ended up as Gamora's stunt double. Her Sim version wields a permanent intensity that works, even if the skin color isn't quite there.
Karlach, bless her fiery heart, apparently missed a few weeks at the gym. In the game she's a muscle-bound infernal engine of destruction, but her Sim self looks like she mostly powers magic with moody stares. It's still recognizable, but I couldn't help laughing when I first saw her.
The absolute star of this show, however, is the Dark Urge. Since The Sims 4 doesn't come with a "mysterious dragonborn serial killer" preset, the creator did the only logical thing: they slapped a dragon mascot head onto a body wearing a full-white trench coat. The result is a fever dream of a Sim who looks like a theme park mascot that took a wrong turn into a nightmare. I can't look at it without giggling. It's so ridiculous that it circles back around to being perfect.

Pristine-Musician-10 mentioned they were thinking about starting Lae'zel and Shadowheart with a small romance meter, but decided it might be more fun to "see what happens." That one sentence opened up an entire cinematic universe in my head. Imagine all eight of them sharing a suburban house, complete with one bathroom and a cheap dishwasher. Lae'zel would be constantly provoking everyone into fights. Astarion would drink from the plasma fruit fridge while judging everyone's wardrobe. Gale would set the kitchen on fire trying to cook gourmet meals. Shadowheart would steal the toilet paper and then hide in her room. Karlach would try to hug everyone and accidentally break the furniture. Wyll would be teaching Scratch tricks in the backyard while Durge stands motionless in the corner in that dragon mascot head, waiting for the perfect moment to pull a knife from the trench coat.
I need this sitcom immediately. Somebody get Larian and EA on the phone.
Later in 2026, as both communities still thrive, creations like this one remind me why I adore the intersection of gaming fandoms. Baldur's Gate 3 gave us companions so richly written that they jump genres effortlessly. Whether you're rolling dice in Faerûn or micromanaging bladder needs in Willow Creek, these characters remain instantly recognizable and endlessly entertaining. The entire project is a love letter to roleplaying, creativity, and the sheer joy of asking "what if?"
If I ever get bored playing Baldur's Gate 3 for the fiftieth time (unlikely), I know exactly which household I'm downloading from the gallery. Just promise me nobody will try to woohoo the dragon mascot.
